WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:
This two-day workshop is for seasoned and beginning practitioners who work with children, adolescents, and their families and are interested in augmenting their clinical skills and therapeutic toolkit. The training will cover various topics including play therapy theory, rapport-building, assessment, and play therapy techniques. Through didactic presentation, experiential exercises, and videos of actual client sessions, this training will combine theoretical material with hands-on techniques. Participants will come away with many new and innovative engagement, assessment, and treatment interventions for use with children and families who present with a wide range of issues.
Learning Objectives:
- Articulate the therapeutic powers of play therapy.
- Summarize the major theoretical models of play therapy.
- Identify how to select toys and materials to facilitate therapeutic growth.
- Utilize a variety of creative interventions to build therapeutic rapport with children, teens, and families.
- Implement an innovative model to assess children and teens.
- List the key steps for developing a treatment plan.
- List the benefits to using play therapy techniques in family sessions.
- Utilize a variety of play therapy techniques including games, puppets, storytelling, and art.
- Describe key processing skills to deepen therapeutic work.
- Describe the key ingredients for an effective termination and integrate techniques into ending sessions with children, teens, and families.
Meet the Instructor:
Liana Lowenstein is a Registered Clinical Social Worker, Certified Play Therapist-Supervisor, and Certified TF-CBT Therapist who has been working with children and their families in Toronto since 1988. She presents trainings across North America and abroad. Recent speaking engagements include China, South Africa, Israel, England, and Australia. Liana’s 13 books on child and family therapy are known internationally for their innovative and practical techniques. Satisfactory Completion:
Participants must have paid the tuition fee, logged in and out each day, attended the entire webinar, and completed an evaluation to receive a certificate (for pre-recorded program, a post-test with a passing grade of 80% is required.) Failure to log in or out will result in forfeiture of credit for the entire course. No exceptions will be made. Partial credit is not available. Certificates are available electronically after satisfactory course completion. A link will be provided for those who have completed the training.
