Parent attempts to stop bedtime resistance can inadvertently lead to a worsening of bedtime behavior. Several evidence-based approaches have been shown to be highly effective at reducing bedtime resistance and its associated negative ripple effects on family functioning. This presentation will teach participants several specific approaches to reduce bedtime resistance in preschool and elementary school age children. Participants with basic training in behavioral approaches for behavior problems in children will be able to institute these interventions immediately upon completion of this 2-hour program. Dr. Ortiz received a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Massachusetts\, Amherst in 1999 and completed a pre-doctoral internship at Montefiore Medical Center and a postdoctoral research fellowship at Stony Brook before joining the faculty at LIU-Post in 2001. He teaches the full year statistics sequence in the doctoral program in clinical psychology as well as clinical classes that focus on cognitive-behavior therapy (CBT) and evidence-based treatment of children and adolescents.
