Remote participation allows you to watch live via 2-way camera and includes  all handouts, CE credits & certificate, and full technical support (including facilitating live questions).

Cancellations prior to October 1st will be refunded in full (minus a $25 processing fee). Cancellations after October 1st will not be refunded, but those who are unable to make it are entitled to a credit towards a future training.

 About the Workshop:

This introductory workshop will cover: Presentation of the Internal Family Systems (IFS) model of therapy and will include experiential exercises (such as guided meditations) as well as didactic presentations. A video of a full IFS session will be shown as well as a live demonstration with a volunteer. Questions about the applicability of the model to specific populations (Trauma, LGBT, Couples, Addicts etc) will be addressed as will questions arising throughout the course of the day.

The goals for this day are for you:

  • to learn and understand the basics of the IFS model including the 3 types of parts we typically encounter in session, and introduce the concept of Self energy
  • to have an understanding of working with Protectors, your own Therapist parts, and Unburdening the Exiles
  • To understand how the model may be applied to specific concerns and populations: trauma, couples, addiction, grief, gender and sexual orientation etc.
  • To witness a demonstration of the model
  • to be able to ask as many questions as you need and know where to go for further information

  • Those who wish to learn the language to be able to effectively communicate with IFS-trained clinicians & clients
  • IFS trained clinicians who would like a comprehensive summary of the model in Derek Scott’s inimitable style
    • Meet the Instructor:

Derek Scott is a Certified IFS Therapist and Registered Social Worker with over 35 years clinical experience. This includes extensive training in the IFS model including taking all three level of the IFS on three separate occasions. Derek regularly teaches the model at the University of Western Ontario and regularly offers courses in learning IFS skills and competencies.

10:30 – 10:45: Break

 

10:45 – 12:30: Discussion – “Therapist parts”, beginner’s mind and the challenge of adopting the model

 

12:30 – 1:30:   Lunch

 

1:30 – 3:15:     Demonstration with Q&A

 

3:30 – 4:45:      Exercise to help participants access their own parts; video of a session, exercise to help participants access their own parts, and how to introduce parts work with current clients.

 

4:45 – 5:00:     Next steps, closing meditation
