CBT for Children and Adolescents

Description

This experiential workshop covers the basics of cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) for children and adolescents with depression, anxiety, and disruptive behavior problems. Topics covered include how to develop a conceptualization based on the cognitive model, plan treatment, and deliver CBT interventions to children, adolescents and their families. Specialized techniques are described and demonstrated for clients with depression, suicidality, anxiety-spectrum disorders.

This workshop will focus on the unique challenges of working with children and the importance of delivering CBT techniques in the context of a strong working alliance. Participants will learn how to use the cognitive model to better understand children in distress. There will also be discussion of how to work with families and to include them effectively in CBT. CBT techniques, such as empirically-supported cognitive and behavioral interventions that have shown particular efficacy with anxiety, depression, and disruptive behavior problems will be illustrated.
