Cognitive Behavior Therapy Adapted to Adult ADHD

Description

This workshop will: especially 

Provide a contemporary framework for understanding ADHD as a developmental syndrome of impaired self-regulation, namely executive dysfunction, which includes matters of time management and emotional self-regulation among others. Dr. Ramsay will discuss the ramifications of this model of ADHD for the CBT conceptualization and different intervention domains within a CBT approach. Citations supporting CBT as an evidence-supported psychosocial treatment for adult ADHD will be included.

 

In particular, Dr. Ramsay will review specific coping tactics and strategies within the intervention domains in the CBT approach for adult ADHD, including the important and unique role of cognitions and beliefs. Specifically, Dr. Ramsay will review each of the following domains and the chief therapeutic target within each:

 

Cognitive Modification Domain

Behavioural Domain

Emotional Management

Implementation Strategy Domain

Interpersonal Domain

 

Specific executive functioning topics will also be presented.

Instructors

Dr. Russell Ramsay is a licensed psychologist specializing in the assessment and psychosocial treatment of adult ADHD. Before retiring from the University of Pennsylvania in 2023 to launch his solo virtual practice, he was professor of clinical psychology in psychiatry and co-founder and co-director of PENN’s Adult ADHD Treatment and Research Program. 

 

Dr. Ramsay has authored many peer-reviewed professional and scientific articles, research abstracts, and book chapters. He is author of six books related to various aspects of adult ADHD, including his most recent, Once I Get Started: The Adult ADHD Program for Turning Your Intentions into Actions. His self-help guidebook, The Adult ADHD Tool Kit, has been translated to Spanish, French, Korean, Chinese, and is in the process of being translated into German and Russian. The Tool Kit is a recommended self-help book of the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT). His Adult ADHD & Anxiety Workbook has been translated into Korean and Japanese. Dr. Ramsay was an invited contributor to the APA Psychotherapy Video training series with a live demonstration of his CBT approach for adult ADHD. 

 

Dr. Ramsay is a CHADD Hall of Fame inductee and received the Award for Excellence in Clinical Teaching & Research from the University of Pennsylvania. He has lectured worldwide and is regularly sought out by media outlets and podcasts for his insights on topics related to ADHD in adults.
